Tax Internship

Hamilton Tharp, LLP offers tax internships during tax season, from January/February through April,  and during the summer, from May to August. Applications and resumes are accepted for the Spring Internship from October to January and Summer from April to June.  Candidates must have completed Introduction to Accounting classes, Income Tax Preparation classes, and be pursuing their degree in accounting. Primarily concentrates on file set-up and beginning tax preparation. Internships are available for full- and part-time students, and pay is based on experience. Interns must be able to work 15-25 hours per week, with some weekends available.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Becomes familiar with Firm’s policies and procedures.
  • Following Firm’s policies and procedures.
  • Performs general bookkeeping functions for a variety of clients.
  • Correctly applies tax and accounting research techniques.
  • Performs assigned accounting procedures for specific accounts and transactions.
  • Updates accounting and tax procedures and documents these accordingly.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all client and Firm information to the greatest possible degree.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Handles special projects as requested by more experienced staff members.
  • Provides detailed information / reports to management as needed.
  • Prioritizes workload and informs Supervisor of potential time, resource, and budgeting conflicts.
  • Informs Supervisor and key personnel of project progress, reporting all written and verbal client contact.
  • Attends in-house seminars to gain knowledge beneficial to the Firm.
  • Projects a professional image of the firm – with co-workers and clients.
  • Respect for the firm and other team members.
  • Conveys a willingness to learn through performance reviews and informal coaching sessions.
  • Respectful of others’ workspace and workload.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Experience
& Requirements

Knowledge, Experience, and Educational Requirements:

  • Pursuing an accounting degree from an accredited university – including tax and accounting classes.
  • Zero to three years experience in public accounting
  • Understanding of the rules, requirements and code of conduct of the AICPA and other governmental agencies.
  • Basic knowledge of Quickbooks, Practice CS, UltraTax, Excel, Word, Sureprep and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in the Accounting Field.
